Travel Highlights 2018

This year has been amazing for me in terms of travel. So as 2018 draws to a close, I’d like to share some of my best bits and how I’m planning on making 2019 just as good!

MIAMI & NEW YORK:

Amazingly, I spent New Year’s Day 2018 on Miami Beach. And a few days later, I jet setted off to spend a very quick but incredible 24 hours in New York. I’ve got a whole separate post for my adventures in America, and you can read about them using the links at the bottom of this post!

CAYMAN ISLANDS:

I was lucky enough to be on a cruise from Miami, with a few stops south on the way. Our first stop was to Georgetown in the Cayman Islands.

We hopped off the boat and was immediately greeted with the gorgeous hot sun reflecting on the crystal clear water below us. When we got on land, the place was so colourful – with green from the trees, yellow of the sun, and blue from the water. There were people sipping Pina coladas from real pineapples and Cuban/Jamacian food being cooked on barbecues. It was heaven.

After the beach, we travelled into the town to see the shops and more waterfront. I remember being amazed at how English it was, after being in America for a little while. The road signs were the same, and they drove on the left side of the road. I guess it’s because it used to be a part of the British Colony.

After a walk round shops and along the beach front, our small time in the Cayman Islands was over. We head back to the boat, and was back on our way to Mexico!

COZUMEL, MEXICO:

I’ll never forget waking up, opening the curtains and there before me was the most beautiful harbour I have ever seen. We had arrived in Cozumel, Mexico a few hours before we had awoken, and as soon as we saw it, we rushed out there to spend as much time in Mexico as possible.

Cozumel was a lot larger than Georgetown, there was a lot more beaches and things to do. We decided to head to a beach and got a cab to the closest one. One thing that did surprise me was how nice the people were, they were very courteous – even people who couldn’t speak English well at all.

We got to this part of a beach and found out it was private. We paid to get in and was given wrist bands, a free drink, sun loungers, and a picture taken with a woman in fancy dress.

I don’t think I’ve ever been more relaxed in my life. Here I was in the middle of January with my bikini on, soaking the Mexican sunshine. And then low and behold, three Mexicans came over with guitars and started to serenade us! We happily aggreed and paid them for their genoristy. It was so funny and is still one of my favourite moments ever! Check out my instagram to see that amazing moment ‘@thestokerstory’

After a long day in the sun, we headed back to the boat which was now going to turn around and head back to Miami. What an amazing trip it was.

THASSOS, GREECE

No, this wasn’t on the same trip – although I wish it was! In the summer, me and my boyfriend decided to go to Greece. I’ve never been before and people always say it’s the best European holiday destination – and they aren’t wrong.

We choose a package holiday with Thomas Cook to a little island at the top of Greece called Thassos. It is stunning! It’s exactly how you imagine paradise to be, apart from there is a lot of greenery there which I didn’t expect at all.

The hotel we stayed in called Thassos Sentido Imperial is the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in. It had a private beach for it’s back yard, plenty of bars, places to eat, with a small games room, gym and a spa inside too. The staff were lovely also, and everything about the trip was amazing. Apart from, the torrential rain for two days of our week trip. But even so, we used that time to go into Thassos town to have something to eat and visit their museum.

I love Greece, and I can’t wait to go back and explore more of the country. I’ve got my eye on Athens!

2019:

As you can see, 2018 was pretty amazing. I’ve travelled to five different places in just over six months. This year I have already booked to go to Paris at the end of February, and I am thinking of travelling to Italy in the Summer and Germany in the Autumn/Winter.

I can’t wait to start the new year and all the adventures it’ll bring! Here’s my other travel posts for you to read:
