That’s right, I’m not lying in the title – I really did nearly touch Taylor Swift.
I’ve been a Taylor Swift fan (AKA Swiftie) since I was about 14. I remember listening to her first album and just falling in love with her and her music. Ever since, I’ve been hooked. And as Taylor approaches her last days of the tour, I reminisce on the time I got so close I nearly touched her hand.
I’d only been to the 1989 World Tour when she released the dates for the Reputation Stadium World Tour. Ticket prices these days are soooo expensive, but when it’s for your idol, paying that little bit more is worth it. And luckily, I managed to get good floor seating tickets at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on the 8th of June, 2018 – and my word, wasn’t it worth it.
The day arrived and I was so excited. We headed to the very busy stadium, and I got a T-shirt to remember the occasion by. I’d never been to The Etihad before, and bloody hell it’s a big place. We headed to our seats and we were about five rows from the very back. Anyone on stage was a little dot but I couldn’t care less – I was seeing Taylor Swift for the second time!
And that’s where my luck changed.
Manchester was Taylor’s first UK date, but she’d been performing around the world doing this show for a while now. But I don’t like spoilers, so I hadn’t looked at any videos and hardly any pictures of the tour so I didn’t know what to expect.
The show started with flames touching the sky and Swift’s vocals hitting notes like never before. It was already the best show I had ever seen! Then… something amazing happened.
Taylor got on what I can only describe as a podium on a long wire and came down to a stage (which I didn’t even see) to the very left of the floor. That’s when everyone ran to that stage which was still quite far away from me because I was on the other end. She sang some acoustic songs, and I got some great pictures.
Then, that’s where my luck changed again!
I suddenly noticed Taylor was coming down some steps and there was a massive gap where I predicted she was going to walk from that stage to the one near me! Loads of people ran to the barrier at the back, so I thought I would too! And that’s when she walked past me – so, so, so close to touching my hand! I could see the sweat on her face, her amazingly white teeth, and every sequin on her snakeskin jumpsuit. She’s even more beautiful in real life.
I was over the moon already – I couldn’t believe I was so close to her! She then stepped onto the stage which my seat was beside, so I wiggled my way in and watched her perform my favourite song of hers – Blank Space. It couldn’t of been better if I had tried.
Here’s one more video I managed to get – just click the link:
She then headed back to the main stage in the same fashion she came and I headed back to my seat completely mind-blown about what had just happened.
Do you like Taylor Swift? Have you ever seen her live? If not, it’s well worth it, she puts on an amazing performance, and makes it feel like a personal show between you and her, even when there are thousands of people there with you. And can you believe how close I got by accident? Amazing! It’s been 5 months and I’m still not over it!
