Writing is my passion, so creating a blog has always appealed to me. After many failures, I’m glad to be having fun and continuing to make a blog I can be proud of. But, I never expected it to be this hard. If you’re thinking of creating a blog, here’s the reality of being a blogger… it isn’t always as glamorous as it seems.
YOU HAVE TO BE JACK OF ALL TRADES
When you become a blogger, you have to be good at everything. Not only are you a writer, you’re a photographer, editor, SEO and social media expert, advertiser, model, and so much more.
Trying to learn how to properly execute all these things while still portraying your own personality is difficult, and one I’m still struggling with four months down the line.
IT’S YOUR SECOND JOB
If you’ve got a full-time job like me, running a blog at the same time is hard. You’ve got to work around the normal 9-5, and when people are relaxing from a long day at work, you’ve got to continue working.
The same goes for the weekends. You have to schedule time out of your day to make sure blog posts are written, that you’ve updated all your social media platforms, and took some pictures for the week ahead. There’s a lot of planning, so being organised is key to being a blogger.
SOMETIMES YOU GET NOTHING BACK
Oftentimes, you work really hard creating content and no one reads it. That’s the hardest part of creating a blog, and why so many people fail. From my small experience of blogging, what you put into it is what you get out of it, so if you’re consistent with your content, more people will start to read your blog. But of course, that’s easier said than done.
IT ISN’T ALL BAD
Putting all these points together makes blogging seem like a chore. But over all, it’s such a wonderful thing to do. While you’re having to learn to be all these new things, you’re adopting skills you’d never otherwise know! And although some days no one looks at your site, the days you get interaction makes everything worth while.
You should never take up blogging just to become an influencer or to make money because it’ll never work. Whether your passion is writing, photography, styling, food or something else entirely, blogging is a way to be creative… just the way you want to. So if you’ve been thinking about creating a blog do it! Just be wary of all the hard work that does into it.
