Lights… camera… POSE? A couple of weeks ago, I had a professional photoshoot at a Charlton-based studio, Ivy Rose. If you’re thinking about having one done or are nervous about your upcoming shoot, here’s what my experience was like with this lovely company!
My friend Erin told me she had won a boudoir photoshoot competition earlier this year. She was to go and have her hair and make-up done, and pictured professionally. Then, she realised a friend could come along! And while I said no to the underwear… I did say yes to the experience.
Nice and early on a Saturday morning me and Erin arrived at Ivy Rose Studio. It’s in a lovely part of Manchester called Chorlton, in their small, bungalow-esque studio.
As soon as we arrived, the two ladies that were there were so nice to us. They were chatting, offering us drinks and asking us about where we had travelled from. From the moment you get there, you feel at ease.
Before the hair and make-up gets started, you’re asked what kind of shoot you want. I didn’t feel confident enough for boudoir, but I did want my shoot to be fun and cute and something that would look good on my blog too.
I decided to have my make-up done first, and with my blog having a red theme, I thought my make-up and shoot should reflect that. Having my make-up done is such a treat for me, and she did such a gooooood job. She gave me a red smokey eye, with eyeliner and contouring. It looked really nice and so professional! She also decided to give my hair a curl, as I have it straight every day.
And then it was time for the photoshoot.
I’m not going to lie, I was really nervous about having it done. I was worried how I was going to look on camera, whether I was going to look fat… but you don’t need to worry, they make you feel so beautiful. The lovely women taking my pictures was really friendly and was putting you in the all the poses and positions, as she knows what looks good and what doesn’t. She was also complimenting me and making me feel empowered rather than just body conscious.
With four costume changes, and an array of different backgrounds, my photoshoot was done. And surprisingly, it’s very tiring! Models do not get enough credit.
All in all, the day took about four hours and it was really, really good fun and I left feeling great about myself.
Here’s what the set looked like:
GETTING THE EDITED IMAGES
Two weeks after the shoot, our images were done. We were invited back to the studio and got the chance to take a look at all the images. They looked fantastic and in the end I chose six, with an extra one added in as part of us winning the competition.
Here’s the finished result:
I’m so glad Erin won the competition because otherwise, I would have never had the chance to experience something like this… so thanks Ezza!
It would be so easy for a company to do this and it make you feel so comfortable, but the girls at Ivy Rose make you feel sexy, empowered and beautiful from the moment you walk in those doors. And I just had my normal clothes on!
