I can’t remember life without my English Springer Spaniel, Apollo. Wait, let me rephrase that – I don’t like to think about life without him. Like any dog, he brings so much happiness and joy to mine and my family’s life, so if you’re looking for a breed of dog to have, a springer spaniel could be a great choice for you.
Apollo was born north of Manchester on the 19th of May 2015 to two ex-police dogs. He was in a litter of six – four girls and two boys. As we went to choose which puppy we would like to take home, Apollo stood out because of his completely brown face and spots that looked like a little plug on his back. And ever since we first met him, he has been a cheeky but extremely loving Chappy.
Apollo, just like every springer is so energetic all of the time. And while that for some will be too overwhelming, it’s so nice to have a dog that always wants your attention and is extremely loyal. Not to mention, he is just the cutest dog in the entire world, so even if he is being hard to handle, his big brown eyes just makes it all ok again.
Here he is on his birthdays!
Oh, and a couple of Christmas’ ago:
One of the down sides of Apollo and many springers is that he is just so strong – so strong that it’s difficult for me to walk him. But luckily, my dad can handle him and takes him for about a three hour walk a day.
He loves playing (especially being chased), and he is just overall very, very clever. He has such a massive, loving personality and would never hurt anyone or anything. He may have a big and loud bark, but he certainly is a big softie. I honestly think they’re the best breed of dog in the world. But of course, matching your dog to your lifestyle is so important. My dad works from home and enjoys long walks, so a springer was a good option, but it may be different for you. So hopefully, this will help.
BENEFITS OF SPRINGERS:
They just want to please you
Affectionate and loving
Get on with other animals
Funny and full of energy
CONS OF SPRINGERS:
Very strong so hard to walk sometimes
Hair gets out of control so needs grooming often
Overly hyper most of the time
Need a lot of attention
He’s cute, right? I just can’t resist not sharing some more pictures as I have so many, as he’s my fave doggie in the world and always will be. I hope one day a springer can light up your life x
