Bring and Mix is Manchester’s most unique and exciting cocktail bar, and I was lucky enough to experience their marvellous magic of mixology.
Do you love cocktails? Who doesn’t, right? Well, Bring and Mix is where your favourite cocktails come to life like never before. After receiving a very kind invite, I was lucky enough to spend an evening with them, and as soon as I stumbled on their website, bringandmix.com, I fell in love.
The idea is simple. Bring as many of your favourite spirits as you like, and they’ll create sensational cocktails to your preference. You just have to sit back, relax and sip. What could be better?
MIXING IT UP:
Branded as ‘a bespoke cocktail experience’, the theme of Bring and Mix is the roaring 1920’s in the alcohol prohibition. It all starts with an email before your visit giving instructions on what to bring, how to get there, and the password to get in. The theme of secrecy is strong from the get-go – and I just love it!
On the night, we made our way to Bring and Mix’s location in Chorlton. It’s just a regular coffee shop by day, but by night its a secret cocktail bar. We found the door and it was completely black, I was worried we may be knocking on the wrong door! That’s when I noticed a little table with an old picture, old telephone and just one candle flickering. That’s when I knew we were at the right place.
We had to knock on quite a few times before a young charming man opened the door. I immediately shouted ‘HELLO’, until I realised we had to say the password! We got it right, and he drew the curtain back to unveil the cutest little bar. It was extremely dimly lit with fairy lights and candles placed around. You would never think it was behind that door when you approach it!
The decor was very lovely too, and very on brand. There was pictures that looked as old as the 1920’s, as well as the books which were on every table. Our was Taxidermy Gone Wrong, haha! The whole thing was completely shut off from the outside world, and the big maroon curtains helped it feel really private and enclosed.
LET THE COCKTAILS BEGIN:
Once seated, we were then greeted by very well dressed mixologists and asked what we had brought, as well as our likes and dislikes. We decided to bring Bacardi, Jack Daniels Honey, and Elderflower Gin to give a bit of variety. They also stated that the best drinks to bring are plain spirits, so they can add more or less to them if necessary. The pics below are where they made all the drinks, and the bar was full of fresh fruit, herbs, spices and flavoured syrups. After a little nosey of behind the scenes, our two hour slot started… so let the drinking commence!
- COCKTAIL 1: This incorporated the Bacardi and the elderflower gin infused with a mango syrup. My favourite cocktails are fruity and not creamy, so this one was a perfect way to start the night.
- COCKTAIL 2: This one was my favourite of the evening! It came in lovely ice cold goblets, and was with the Jack Daniels, Honey spirit. The mixologist said it contained fermented pineapple, using even the skin and the leaves. At first, it gave a really hot and spicy flavour. And then as soon as that heat came it was over taken by the sweetest, fruitiest flavour. It was delicious. Oh, and they very sweetly added a Haribo love heart sweet as he said we were a ‘cute couple’ How charming!
- COCKTAIL 3: This was my least favourite, but still tasty. This used every spirit we bought, with mango liquor, so it was similar to the first one. The only thing I didn’t like was the burnt rosemary added on top, but that’s just my preference.
- COCKTAIL 4: This was a very fruity drink using the Bacardi and gin again. It has a nice strawberry/ rhubarb taste to it (can’t remember what it was) and gorgeous love hearts made with the foam on the top!
- COCKTAIL 5: And lastly, although I was getting very drunk at this point, was a shot. They used all three of the spirits with this one, and it was the best tasting shot I’ve ever had!
THE MOST UNIQUE COCKTAIL EXPERIENCE:
I just can’t get over is the skill of those mixologists. It takes some real skill to mix together our chosen drinks and create something we really like.
I also love how when they delivered each drink they explained everything that was put into it and why. It’s such a real authentic, personal experience.
This place is such a brilliant idea and one that more people need to know about. Its a great idea for birthday’s, Christmas and work do’s, date night and just about anything else – whether you’re looking for a sophisticated evening or pre drinks before you hit the town!
On top of the amazing tasting cocktails, the staff and overall atmosphere just makes this one of the best places I’ve visited in Manchester. So, I highly recommend you go and experience Bring and Mix. You will not be disappointed! But be warned, you’ll probably have a headache the following morning!
